ฟาโรห์เซมเคน (หรือเรียกว่า ชามูเคนู) เป็นผู้ปกครองชาวฮิกซอสในอียิปต์ล่างช่วงสมัยระหว่างกลางที่สองแห่งอียิปต์เมื่อกลางศตวรรษที่ 17 ก่อนคริสตกาล Jürgen von Beckerath รายงานว่า พระองค์เป็นกษัตริย์องค์ที่สามในราชวงศ์ 16 และข้าราชบริพารของกษัตริย์ฮิกซอสในราชวงศ์ที่ 15^[3]^[4] ความเห็นนี้ยังสอดคล้องกับของ William C. Hayes กับ Wolfgang Helck แต่ไม่นานมานี้ปฏิเสธโดย Kim Ryholt โดยในงานศึกษาเกี่ยวกับสมัยระหว่างกลางที่สองใน ค.ศ. 1997 Ryholt โต้ย้งว่ากษัตริย์ในราชวงศ์ที่ 16 ปกครองดินแดนทีบส์ที่เป็นเอกราชเมื่อประมาณ 1650–1580 ปีก่อนคริสตกาล^[5] ทำให้ Ryholt มองฟาโรห์เซมเคนเป็นกษัตริย์ฮิกซอสยุคแรกในราชวงศ์ที่ 15 โดยอาจเป็นผู้ปกครององค์แรก การวิเคราะห์นี้ทำให้นักอียิปต์วิทยาบางคนอย่าง Darrell Baker กับ Janine Bourriau เชื่อถือ^[6]^[7] แต่บางกลุ่มไม่เชื่อ เช่น Stephen Quirke^[8]
