ในรอว์ (2 กันยายน 2013) หลังจากที่แพ้แรนดี ออร์ตันนั้นส่งผลให้โคดีต้องถูกไล่ออกจาก WWE โดยคำสั่งของทริปเปิลเอช ประธาน COO[53] ซึ่งแท้จริงแล้วโคดีกำลังเตรียมตัวเข้าพิธีแต่งงานและไปฮันนีมูนกับแฟนสาวอย่าง แบรนดี รีด จึงสร้างเรื่องราวให้เขาถูกไล่ออกตามบท[54] ในรอว์ (30 กันยายน 2013) ทริปเปิลเอชกับสเตฟานี แม็กแมนออกมาที่เวทีและก็เชิญครอบครัวโรดส์ (ดัสตี, โคดี และโกลดัสต์) ให้ออกมาคุยกัน ทริปเปิลเอชบอกว่าเราให้โอกาสพวกนายแล้ว ให้โคดีเจอกับแรนดี ออร์ตันเพื่อรักษางานของโคดีแต่ก็แพ้ จากนั้นเราก็ให้โอกาสอีก ให้โกลดัสต์เจอกับออร์ตันแล้วก็แพ้อีก จากนั้นสเตฟานีก็ให้ดัสตีเลือกว่าจะให้ลูกคนไหนกลับเข้าทำงานแต่เขากลับบอกให้สเตฟานีไปลงนรกซะ ทริปเปิลเอชบอกจะให้โอกาสอีกครั้งให้โคดีกับโกลดัสต์เจอกับเซธ รอลลินส์และโรมัน เรนส์ในแบทเทิลกราวด์ ถ้าชนะได้ก็จะให้กลับเข้าทำงานทั้งสองคน แต่ถ้าแพ้ทั้งคู่ก็จะไม่มีวันได้กลับมา WWE อีกตลอดกาล และดัสตีจะถูกไล่ออกจากตำแหน่งเทรนเนอร์ NXT ด้วย ดัสตีขอต่อรองว่าจะอยู่ที่มุมเวทีของลูกๆด้วย ซึ่งสเตฟานีก็ตกลง ครอบครัวโรดส์กำลังเดินกลับแต่ก็โดนเดอะชีลด์ ขึ้นมากระทืบจนนอนกองกันทุกคน ในแบทเทิลกราวด์โคดีและโกลดัสต์เป็นฝ่ายเอาชนะเดอะชีลด์ได้ทำให้ครอบครัวโรดส์ได้กลับมาทำงานใน WWE อีกครั้ง[55]

สมาคมอิสระและ AEW

หลังออกจาก WWE โคดีได้เซ็นสัญญาปล้ำให้กับสมาคมอิสระทั่วไป[67][68][69][70][3][71] วันที่ 19 กรกฎาคม 2016 โคดีได้เซ็นสัญญากับริงออฟออเนอร์(ROH)[72] และเซ็นสัญญาสั้นๆกับTNA[73][4] วันที่ 10 ธันวาคม 2016 โคดีได้ร่วมปล้ำกับนิวเจแปนโปรเรสต์ลิง(NJPW) และใช้ฉายา "The American Nightmare"[74][75] ปี 2017 โคดีได้คว้าแชมป์โลก ROHสมัยแรกจากคริสโตเฟอร์ แดเนียลส์และเป็นแชมป์โลกเส้นแรกในอาชีพของเขา[76] วันที่ 1 กันยายน 2018 โคดีกับ The Young Bucks ได้ร่วมกันเป็นเจ้าภาพจัดรายการเพย์เพอร์วิวศึก All In[77][78] และโคดีได้คว้าแชมป์โลกเฮฟวี่เวท NWAเป็นสมัยแรกจาก Nick Aldis ทำให้โคดีกับพ่อของเขา ดัสตี โรดส์ เป็นพ่อลูกคู่แรกที่ได้แชมป์โลก NWA[79] ในศึก Fighting Spirit Unleashed ของ NJPW โคดีก็ได้คว้าแชมป์ IWGP United States Championship จาก Juice Robinson เป็นแชมป์เส้นแรกในสมาคม NJPW[80] ในวันที่ 1 มกราคม 2019 โคดีได้เปิดตัวสมาคมใหม่ All Elite Wrestling (AEW) ซึ่งเขาร่วมกับ Matt และ Nick Jackson จะดำรงตำแหน่งรองประธานบริหาร[81] นอกจากนี้ยังได้เป็นแชมป์ TNT คนแรกของสมาคม[82][83][84] และลาออกจาก AEW ในเดือนกุมภาพันธ์ 2022[85]
