Brian James เคยเป็นทหารผ่านศึกนาวิกโยธินสหรัฐ ก่อนเข้าสู่วงการมวยปล้ำต้นยุค 1990 เริ่มต้นปล้ำในสมาคมอินดี้และ WCW ภายใต้ชื่อ “Brian Armstrong”

เข้ามา WWF ช่วงปี 1994 ในบท The Roadie คู่หูของ Jeff Jarrett ปี 1996–1997 กลับมาอีกครั้งในชื่อ Jesse James ร้องเพลง “With My Baby Tonight” (ซึ่งจริง ๆ เป็นเสียง Jeff Jarrett) จุดเปลี่ยนคือปี 1997 เมื่อจับคู่กับ Billy Gunn กลายเป็น The New Age Outlaws ทั้งคู่กลายเป็นแท็กทีมสุดฮอตของ Attitude Era โดยเข้าร่วมกลุ่ม D-Generation X (DX) Road Dogg มีเอกลักษณ์การพูดก่อนแมตช์ “Oh, you didn’t know? Your ass better call somebody!” ที่แฟน ๆ จดจำได้ คว้าแชมป์ WWF Tag Team Championship 6 สมัย (ส่วนใหญ่กับ Billy Gunn) ปี 1999 ได้แชมป์ WWF Intercontinental Championship และ WWF Hardcore Championship

หลังออกจาก WWE ปี 2001 ก็ได้ไปปล้ำที่อินดี้ รวมถึง TNA/Impact Wrestling ในชื่อ “B.G. James” ที่ TNA เขารวมกลุ่ม 3 Live Kru กับ Konnan และ Ron “The Truth” Killings

หลังเลิกปล้ำ เขากลับมา WWE ในเบื้องหลัง เป็นทีมครีเอทีฟและโปรดิวเซอร์ ปี 2012 ได้เข้าหอเกียรติยศ WWE Hall of Fame ในฐานะสมาชิก D-Generation X (เข้าพร้อม Triple H, Shawn Michaels, X-Pac, Billy Gunn และ Chyna) ปัจจุบันยังคงทำงานหลังฉากให้ WWE ดูแลด้านครีเอทีฟ
