เกิดเมื่อวันที่ 20 กันยายน 1951 ที่เมืองซีแอตเทิล รัฐวอชิงตัน สหรัฐอเมริกา เป็นบุตรของนักมวยปล้ำชื่อดัง Johnny Valentine รับการฝึกฝนโดย Stu Hart ที่คลังการฝึก “Dungeon” ใน Calgary และโดย Ed Farhat

ช่วงต้นอาชีพ

เริ่มต้นปล้ำรอบปี 1970 โดยใช้ชื่อปล้ำว่า “Baby Face Nelson” ก่อนจะเปลี่ยนไปเป็น “Johnny Fargo” (หนึ่งใน The Fargo Brothers กับ Don Fargo) ในช่วงปี ~1971–1974 หลังจากนั้นใช้ชื่อ “Johnny Valentine Jr.” เพื่อสืบทอดชื่อของพ่อ ต่อมาเปลี่ยนชื่อมาใช้ Greg “The Hammer” Valentine ซึ่งเป็นชื่อที่รู้จักกันมากที่สุด

แต่งงานกับ Julie เมื่อ 14 กุมภาพันธ์ 1995 มีลูกสาวสองคน ชื่อ Vanessa และ Romaine จากภรรยาคนแรก; Vanessa เสียชีวิตด้วยโรคมะเร็งในปี 2014 เป็นคริสเตียน Born again และมีส่วนร่วมกับกิจกรรมคริสเตียนบ้าง เช่นพูดในโรงเรียน มหาวิทยาลัย ได้รับการบันทึกชื่อใน WWE Hall of Fame ในปี 2004 และ Professional Wrestling Hall of Fame ในปี 2016
