แอฟริกาตะวันตก (อังกฤษ: West Africa, Western Africa) เป็นภูมิภาคตะวันตกสุดของทวีปแอฟริกา โดยสหประชาชาติระบุประเทศในภูมิภาคนี้มี 16 ประเทศคือเบนิน, บูร์กินาฟาโซ, กาบูเวร์ดี, แกมเบีย, กานา, กินี, กินี-บิสเซา, โกตดิวัวร์, ไลบีเรีย, มาลี, มอริเตเนีย, ไนเจอร์, ไนจีเรีย, เซเนกัล, เซียร์ราลีโอน และโตโก เช่นเดียวกันกับเซนต์เฮเลนา อัสเซนชัน และตริสตันดากูนยา[8] ประชากรในแอฟริกาตะวันตกมีประมาณ 419 ล้านคน[1][2] ใน 2021 แบ่งออกเป็นผู้หญิง 189,672,000 คนและผู้ชาย 192,309,000 คน[3] ภูมิภาคนี้เป็นหนึ่งในภูมิภาคที่เติบโตเร็วที่สุดในทวีปแอฟริกาทั้งในด้านประชากร[9] และเศรษฐกิจ[10]

ประชาคมเศรษฐกิจรัฐแอฟริกาตะวันตก ซึ่งก่อตั้งในเดือนพฤษภาคม ค.ศ. 1975 เป็นตัวบ่งชี้ภูมิภาคแอฟริกาตะวันตกมาตั้งแต่ ค.ศ. 1999 ประกอบด้วย 15 รัฐดังนี้:[8]

ในทางภูมิรัฐศาสตร์ สหประชาชาติแบ่งภูมิภาคในแอฟริกาตะวันตกด้วยรัฐก่อนหน้ากับมอริเตเนีย (ถอนตัวจาก ECOWAS ใน ค.ศ. 1999) ทำให้มีพื้นที่ประมาณ 6.1 ล้านตารางกิโลเมตร[11] นอกจากนี้ ภูมิภาคย่อยของสหประชาชาติยังรวมเซนต์เฮเลนา อัสเซนชัน และตริสตันดากูนยา ดินแดนโพ้นทะเลของสหราชอาณาจักรในมหาสมุทรแอตแลนติกตอนใต้ด้วย[12]
