ภาษามณีปุระ หรือ ภาษาเมเต เป็นภาษากลางในรัฐมณีปุระทางตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของอินเดีย และเป็นภาษาราชการของรัฐนี้ด้วย มีผู้พูดทั้งหมด 1,391,000 คน พบในอินเดีย 1,370,000 คน (พ.ศ. 2543) ในรัฐมณีปุระ รัฐอัสสัม รัฐนาคาแลนด์ รัฐตรีปุระ รัฐอุตตรประเทศ ผู้พูดภาษานี้จะพูดภาษาฮินดีได้ด้วย พบในบังกลาเทศ 15,000 คน (พ.ศ. 2546) จะพูดภาษาเบงกอลหรือภาษาสิลเหติได้ด้วย พบในพม่า 6,000 คน (พ.ศ. 2474) จัดอยู่ในตระกูลภาษาจีน-ทิเบต กลุ่มภาษาทิเบต-พม่า ในรัฐมณีปุระ มีรายการวิทยุออกอากาศด้วยภาษานี้ เขียนด้วยอักษรเบงกอลหรืออักษรมณีปุระ เรียงประโยคแบบประธาน-กรรม-กริยา ไม่มีเสียงวรรณยุกต์ เป็นภาษาที่มีการสอนถึงระดับปริญญาเอกในมหาวิทยาลัยแห่งอินเดีย และใช้เป็นภาษาในการสอนปริญญาตรีในรัฐมณีปุระ เป็นภาษาที่ต่างจากภาษามณีปุระพิษณุปุระที่เป็นภาษากลุ่มอินโด-อารยัน ทางยูเนสโกจัดให้ภาษานี้อยู่ในสถานะ "ภาษาใกล้สูญ"[2]
