สงครามสืบราชบัลลังก์ออสเตรีย (อังกฤษ: War of the Austrian Succession; เยอรมัน: Österreichischer Erbfolgekrieg) เป็นสงครามมหาอำนาจสุดท้ายของราชวงศ์บูร์บง-ฮาพส์บวร์ค โดยเกิดขึ้นจาก ค.ศ. 1740 ถึง 1748 และถือเป็นจุดที่ราชอาณาจักรปรัสเซียเริ่มกลายเป็นมหาอำนาจ[7]

สงครามเริ่มจากการที่เมื่อจักรพรรดิคาร์ลที่ 6 แห่งโรมันอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ เสด็จสวรรคตในค.ศ. 1740 พระนางมาเรีย เทเรซา ผู้เป็นพระราชบุตรเพียงองค์เดียวจึงได้สืบบัลลังก์ของฮังการี, โครเอเชีย, โบฮีเมีย, ออสเตรีย และปาร์มา ต่อจากพระราชบิดา ซึ่งขัดกับกฎหมายแซลิกที่ห้ามสตรีครองแว่นแคว้น นอกจากนี้ ด้วยความที่พระนางซึ่งเป็นสตรีไม่สามารถสืบตำแหน่งจักรพรรดิโรมันอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์ได้ จึงผลักดันให้พระสวามีคือฟรันซ์ สเตฟัน ดยุกแห่งลอแรน ขึ้นเป็นจักรพรรดิโรมันอันศักดิ์สิทธิ์แทน

การที่สตรีได้ครองแผ่นดินซึ่งขัดกับกฎหมาย ทำให้บรรดามหาอำนาจออกมาเรียกร้องสิทธิในบัลลังก์จักรวรรดิให้แก่เจ้านครที่เป็นบุรุษและเหมาะสมกว่า ประเทศปรัสเซียและประเทศฝรั่งเศสมีความต้องการบั่นทอนอำนาจของราชวงศ์ฮาพส์บวร์คแห่งออสเตรียเป็นทุนเดิมอยู่แล้ว ในขณะที่ประเทศคู่อริของทั้งปรัสเซียและฝรั่งเศสอย่างบริเตนใหญ่และสาธารณรัฐดัตช์ก็คอยสนับสนุนฮาพส์บวร์ค สเปนซึ่งกำลังทำสงครามกับบริเตนใหญ่มาตั้งแต่ปี 1739 จึงถือโอกาสนี้เข้าข้างฝ่ายปรัสเซียและฝรั่งเศสเพื่อหมายจะขจัดอิทธิพลของราชวงศ์ฮาพส์บวร์คเหนือคาบสมุทรสเปนในคราวเดียว เป็นการยิงปืนนัดเดียวได้นกสองตัว
