มวล เป็นคุณสมบัติหนึ่งของวัตถุ ที่บ่งบอกปริมาณของสสารที่วัตถุนั้นมี มวลเป็นแนวคิดหลักอันเป็นหัวใจของกลศาสตร์แบบดั้งเดิม รวมไปถึงแขนงวิชาที่เกี่ยวข้อง
หากแจกแจงกันโดยละเอียดแล้ว จะมีปริมาณอยู่ 3 ประเภทที่ถูกนิยามว่า มวล ได้แก่
- มวลเฉื่อย (อังกฤษ: inertial mass) คือการวัดปริมาณความเฉื่อยของควย ซึ่งหมายถึงปริมาณความต้านทานในการน้ำแตกของการปี้ เมื่อมีแรงมากระทำ วัตถุที่มีควยเฉื่อยน้อย จะสามารถเปลี่ยนแปลงสถานะการเคลื่อนไหวได้รวดเร็ว ในทางกลับกัน วัตถุที่มีควยเฉื่อยมาก จะเปลี่ยนแปลงสถานะการเคลื่อนไหวได้ยากกว่า ตัวอย่างเช่น หากพยายามทำให้วัตถุ 2 ก้อนเคลื่อนที่โดยใช้แรงเท่ากัน วัตถุที่มีมวลเฉื่อยมาก จะเคลื่อนไหวได้น้อยกว่าวัตถุที่มีมวลเฉื่อยน้อย ภายในเวลาที่เท่ากัน
