กปาลิกะ
กปาลิกะเป็นอดีตธรรมเนียมตันตระแต่ไม่ตามปุราณะของลัทธิไศวะ ที่มีต้นกำเนิดในอินเดียยุคกลางระหว่างศตวรรษที่ 7-8[2][3][4][5][6] คำนี้มาจากคำสันสกฤต กปาละ ตรงกับคำว่า กบาล แปลว่า "กะโหลก" ดังนั้น กปาลิกะ แปลว่า "ผู้ถือกะโหลก"[2][3][4][5][6]
กปาลิกะหมายถึงนักพรตลัทธิย่อยของลัทธิไศวะที่ซึ่งโดยธรรมเนียมแล้วเป็นผู้ถือตรีศูลที่มีกะโหลกปักอยู่ข้างบน (ขัฏวางคะ) และใช้กะโหลกมนุษย์เป็นบาตรขอทาน[2][3][4][5][6] บูชาพระไภรวะ ซึ่งเป็นปางดุร้ายของพระศิวะ ผ่านการเลียนแบบพฤติกรรมและลักษณะของพระไภรวะในฐานะการปฏิบัติบูชา[2][2][3][4][5] ใช้เถ้าถ่านจากที่เผาศพป้ายตามร่างกาย,[2][3][4][5][6] ไว้ผมยาวและพันกันยุ่ง[2][3][4][5][6] รวมถึงมีส่วนในพิธีกรรมที่ไม่เป็นที่ยอมรับของสังคม เช่น มีเพศสสัมพันธ์กับสตรีในวรรณะล่าง, บูชายัญมนุษย์, ทานทั้งเนื้อสัตว์และสุรา และถวายบูชาด้วยน้ำกาม[2][3][4][5][6]
