การนับถอยหลัง

การนับถอยหลัง หรือ เคานต์ดาวน์ หรือ ขียติคณนา (อังกฤษ: Countdown) เป็นลำดับการนับย้อนหลังเพื่อระบุเวลาที่เหลืออยู่ก่อนที่เหตุการณ์จะเกิดขึ้น โดยทั่วไป NASA จะใช้คำว่า "L-minus" และ "T-minus" ระหว่างการเตรียมการและการคาดการณ์การปล่อยจรวด^[1] และแม้กระทั่ง "E-minus" สำหรับเหตุการณ์ที่เกี่ยวข้องกับยานอวกาศที่อยู่ในอวกาศแล้ว โดยที่ "T" อาจหมายถึง "การทดสอบ" หรือ "เวลา" และ "E" หมายถึง "การเผชิญหน้า" อย่างดาวหางหรือวัตถุอวกาศอื่น ๆ เช่น ยานอวกาศ^[2]

เหตุการณ์อื่น ๆ ที่มักใช้การนับถอยหลัง ได้แก่ การจุดวัตถุระเบิด การเริ่มการแข่งขัน นับถอยหลังสู่วันปีใหม่ หรือเหตุการณ์ใด ๆ ที่ทุกคนตั้งตารอคอยอย่างใจจดใจจ่อ การใช้งานการนับถอยหลังในช่วงแรก ๆ เคยเป็นสัญญาณบอกการเริ่มต้นการแข่งขันพายเรือของมหาวิทยาลัยเคมบริดจ์^[3]

หนึ่งในความเชื่อมโยงที่รู้จักกันเกี่ยวกับจรวดครั้งแรกคือในภาพยนตร์นิยายวิทยาศาสตร์เยอรมันเรื่อง Frau im Mond (แปล: สตรีในดวงจันทร์) ใน ค.ศ. 1929 ซึ่งเขียนบทโดย Thea von Harbou และกำกับโดย Fritz Lang โดยพยายามเพิ่มความน่าตื่นเต้นให้กับฉากการปล่อยจรวดที่มุ่งสู่ดวงจันทร์ตามเนื้อเรื่อง^[4]^[5]
