กระสวยอวกาศ แอตแลนติส (อังกฤษ: Orbiter Vehicle Designation OV-104) เป็นกระสวยอวกาศลำที่ 4 ขององค์การนาซา สหรัฐอเมริกา หมายเลขประจำยาน คือ OV-104 (กระสวยอวกาศลำอื่นได้แก่ ดิสคัฟเวอรี และ เอนเดฟเวอร์)
กระสวยอวกาศแอตแลนติส ถูกตั้งชื่อตามเรือสำรวจหลักของสถาบันสมุทรศาสตร์ เริ่มทำการบินครั้งแรกในเที่ยวบิน STS-51-J วันที่ 19 มกราคม พ.ศ. 2528 ในฐานะยานขนส่งอวกาศลำที่ 4 ของสหรัฐอเมริกา มูลค่า 3 พันล้านดอลลาร์ [1]
ในปี พ.ศ. 2551 (2008) นาซาได้รักษาและยืดอายุการใช้งานของกระสวยอวกาศแอตแลนติส ให้สามารถปฏิบัติภารกิจจนถึงปี พ.ศ. 2553 (2010) เพื่อให้จบโครงการกระสวยอวกาศ โดยเดิมนาซาตั้งใจจะปลดเกษียณกระสวยอวกาศแอตแลนติสในปี พ.ศ. 2551 (2008)
ประวัติ [แก้]
เที่ยวบินแรกของแอตแลนติสในเที่ยวบินที่ STS-51-J เมื่อเดืนตุลาคม พ.ศ. 2528 (1985) ซึ่งการบินครั้งนี้เป็นหนึ่งในห้าภารกิจที่ลูกเรือในยานทำการปฏิบัติเกี่ยวกับด้านการทหาร แอตแลนติสได้บินอีกหนึ่งเที่ยวบินในเที่ยวบิน STS-61-B ก่อนที่จะเกิดเหตุการณ์โศกนาฏกรรมกระสวยอวกาศแชลเลนเจอร์ในปี พ.ศ. 2529 (1986)
ต่อมาในปี พ.ศ. 2538 (1995) ที่เที่ยวบินที่ STS-71 แอตแลนติสได้ทำการบินเทียบท่ากับสถานีอวกาศเมียร์ (สถานีอวกาศของประเทศรัฐเซีย) ในโครงการกระสวยอวกาศ-สถานีอวกาศเมียร์
