แมทช์การปล้ำ วอร์เกมส์ ถูกสร้างสรรค์ขึ้นโดย ดัสตี โรดส์ ที่ได้รับแรงบันดาลใจจากการชมภาพยนตร์เรื่อง Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome[1] ซึ่งถูกใช้เป็นครั้งแรกในการแข่งขันพิเศษสำหรับโฟร์ฮอร์สเมน การแข่งขัน WarGames จัดขึ้นครั้งแรกที่ The Omni ในแอตแลนตา ช่วงทัวร์ของเดอะเกรทอเมริกันแบช ของ NWA ปี 1987 ถูกเรียกว่า War Games: The Match Beyond
