ซวาร์เตอปีต (ดัตช์: Zwarte Piet, ออกเสียง: [ˈzʋɑrtə ˈpit], แปลตรงตัว '"พีตดำ"'; ฟรีเชียตะวันตก: Swarte Pyt; ลักเซมเบิร์ก: Schwaarze Péiter; อินโดนีเซีย: Pit Hitam) เป็นคู่หูของนักบุญนิโคลัส (ดัตช์: Sinterklaas; ฟรีเชียตะวันตก: Sinteklaas; ลักเซมเบิร์ก: Kleeschen; อินโดนีเซีย: Sinterklas) ในคติชนกลุ่มประเทศแผ่นดินต่ำ ภาพแรกสุดเท่าที่ทราบของซวาร์เตอปีตมาจากหนังสือของยัน แช็งก์มัน (Jan Schenkman) ครูจากอัมสเตอร์ดัมใน ค.ศ. 1850 ซึ่งวาดตัวละครนี้เป็นชายชาวมัวร์ผิวดำจากสเปน[1] ตามคติชนนั้น ผิวของซวาร์เตอปีตถูกเขม่าจับจนเป็นสีดำขณะลงไปในปล่องไฟเพื่อมอบของขวัญแก่ผู้คน[2][3] ผู้ที่รับบทเป็นซวาร์เตอปีตมักทาหน้าดำและแต่งกายตามแฟชั่นสมัยฟื้นฟูศิลปวิทยาด้วยสีฉูดฉาด รวมทั้งสวมวิกผมหยิกและทาลิปสติกแดงสว่าง[4][5][6][7][8][9] ตัวละครนี้กลายเป็นหนึ่งในประเด็นการถกเถียงในช่วงไม่กี่ปีที่ผ่านมา

With Arab influence remaining among the Spanish population, Sinter Klaas had a Moorish assistant named Zwarte Piet, or Black Peter, an orphan who was pictured at times wearing a turban and a golden earring. Alternative explanations for his dark skin were that it was soot, from sliding down chimneys, or that he was a representation of the devil, who Saint Nicholas was able to conquer and force into his service. In annual observances over the years, Zwarte Piet was portrayed by a person in black face, and today some cultural commentators have criticized the legends and representations of Black Peter for racial stereotyping.
