การค้นพบ[แก้]
คำอธิบายที่ชัดเจนของคลอโรพลาสต์ (Chlorophyllkörnen "เม็ดคลอโรฟิลล์") ถูกกล่าวถึงครั้งแรกโดย Hugo von Mohl ในปี 1837 โดยมีลักษณะแยกส่วนภายในเซลล์พืชสีเขียว[1] ในปี ค.ศ. 1883 อันเดรียส ฟรานซ์ วิลเฮล์ม ชิมแปร์ ตั้งชื่อวัตถุเหล่านี้ว่า "คลอโรพลาสติดส์" (Chloroplastiden)[2] ต่อมาในปี ค.ศ. 1884 Eduard Strasburger ได้นำคำนำว่า "chloroplasts" (Chloroplasten) มาใช้แทนจนถึงปัจจุบัน[3][4][5]
