ฌ็อง-ฟร็องซัว มีแล (ฝรั่งเศส: Jean-François Millet; 4 ตุลาคม ค.ศ. 1814 – 20 มกราคม ค.ศ. 1875) เป็นจิตรกรชาวฝรั่งเศส ผู้เป็นหนึ่งในผู้ก่อตั้งตระกูลการเขียนบาร์บิซอง (Barbizon school) ในชนบทฝรั่งเศส มีแลมีชื่อเสียงในการเขียนภาพชาวนา มีแลอาจจะจัดอยู่ในขบวนการธรรมชาตินิยมและสัจนิยม

มีแลเป็นบุตรคนแรกของ Jean-Louis-Nicolas กับ Aimée-Henriette-Adélaïde Henry Millet สมาชิกชุมชนเกษตรกรรมในหมู่บ้านกรูว์ชี เกรวีล-อาก แคว้นนอร์ม็องดี ใกล้ชายฝั่ง[2] มีแลได้เรียนรู้เกี่ยวกับนักเขียนภาษาละตินและนักเขียนสมัยใหม่ ภายใต้การชี้นำของบาทหลวงประจำหมู่บ้านสองรูป ซึ่งหนึ่งในนั้นคือบาทหลวง Jean Lebrisseux แต่ไม่นานนัก เขาก็ต้องช่วยพ่อทำงานในไร่[3] เนื่องจากมีแลเป็นบุตรคนโตสุดในบรรดาลูกชายทั้งหมด
ใน ค.ศ. 1833 พ่อส่งเขาไปที่แชร์บูร์เพื่อศึกษากับจิตรกรผู้วาดภาพเหมือนนาม Bon Du Mouchel.[4] ใน ค.ศ. 1835 เขาศึกษาต่อกับ Théophile Langlois de Chèvreville[4] ลูกศิษย์ของ Baron Gros ที่แชร์บูร์ เงินเดือนที่ Langlois และคนอื่น ๆ ให้มา ทำให้มีแลสามารถย้ายไปปารีสได้ใน ค.ศ. 1837 ซึ่งเขาได้ศึกษาที่ École des Beaux-Arts กับ Paul Delaroche[5] ใน ค.ศ. 1839 ทุนการศึกษาของเขาถูกยกเลิก และผลงานชิ้นแรกที่เขาส่งไปที่ Salon เรื่อง Saint Anne Instructing the Virgin ถูกปฏิเสธโดยคณะลูกขุน[6]
