Limosa limosa, the Black-tailed Godwit is a winter visitor to Western and Northern India from Europe and Central Asia. Usually they fly back to their breeding grounds by early April, but the rather late onset of Summer and the prevailing mild climate in Delhi seem to have delayed their departure. This morning we found several individuals in different stages of changeover to the breeding plumage. Here is one male in colourful breeding attire!
