ไลเคนแบบฟรูทิโคสที่เติบโตบนต้นไม้

ไลเคน (อังกฤษ: lichen) เป็นสิ่งมีชีวิต 2 ชนิด ซึ่งได้แก่ เห็ดราและสาหร่าย โดยมีการอยู่ร่วมกันแบบพึ่งพาอาศัยกัน เห็ดราจะได้ความชื้นและก๊าซออกซิเจนจากสาหร่าย และสาหร่ายก็จะได้ก๊าซคาร์บอนไดออกไซด์เพื่อใช้ในการสังเคราะห์ด้วยแสงจากเห็ดรา นอกจากนี้ไลเคนยังสามารถใช้เป็นดัชนีวัดมลพิษทางอากาศได้

ไลเคนมีรูปแบบที่สำคัญ 4 แบบ

1. ครัสโตส (crustose) ลักษณะเป็นแผ่นแข็งติดอยู่บนต้นไม้
2. สแควมูโลส (squamulose) ลักษณะเป็นเม็ดคล้ายลูกหิน ติดแน่นอยู่กับต้นไม้
3. โฟลิโอส (foliose) ลักษณะคล้ายใบไม้ ไม่ติดแน่น
4. ฟรูทิโคส (fruticose) ลักษณะเป็นเส้นหรือแตกกิ่งก้านคล้ายต้นไม้
