อุกกาบาต คือ วัตถุขนาดเล็กในอวกาศที่ผ่านบรรยากาศลงมาถึงพื้นโลก ขณะอยู่ในอวกาศเรียกว่า "สะเก็ดดาว" ขณะเข้าสู่บรรยากาศเรียกว่า "ดาวตก" เราสามารถพบอุกกาบาตได้บนดาวเคราะห์ดวงอื่น เช่น ดาวอังคาร อุกกาบาตประกอบไปด้วยธาตุคาร์บอน ปะปนอยู่ในอุกกาบาตบางชนิดเท่านั้น ซึ่งจะเป็นชนิดเหล็กและนิกเกิล
