สัญชาติ หมายถึง ประเทศที่ที่บุคคลคนนั้นเกิด โดยไม่นับเชื้อชาติ การเปลี่ยนสัญชาตินั้นทำได้ แต่ต้องว่าตามกฎหมายของแต่ละประเทศ สัญชาตินั้นสำคัญมากเพราะจะทำให้คนอื่นรู้ว่าคุณเกิดที่ไหน ดังนั้นในแบบกรอกหลายอย่าง จึงมีช่องสัญชาติให้เติม สำหรับหนังสือเดินทาง จะต้องมีสัญชาติติดตัวอยู่ เพื่อที่จะได้รู้ว่ามาจากประเทศอะไร
