โรคติดเชื้ออุบัติใหม่

โรคติดเชื้ออุบัติใหม่ หรือ โรคติดเชื้ออุบัติซ้ำ (Emerging Infectious Diseases, EID) คือโรคที่เกิดจากสาเหตุการติดเชื้อโรคหรือโรคที่ติดต่อกันได้ ที่มีการอุบัติเกิดเพิ่มมากขึ้นในช่วงระยะเวลา 20 ปีที่ผ่านมา และมีการคาดการณ์ว่าจะเป็นภัยคุกคามมากขึ้นแก่มนุษยชาติในอนาคตต่อไป เชื้อโรคที่เป็นสาเหตุหลักของโรคนี้ แบ่งได้เป็นหลาย ประเภท คือ

• จุลินทรีย์ที่มีการค้นพบใหม่เร็วๆ นี้ หรือ จุลินทรีย์สายพันธุ์ใหม่ที่ระบุได้แล้ว เช่น โรคซาร์ โรคเอดส์
• เชื้อโรคเดิมที่มีการปรับตัว & วิวัฒนาการ มีผลให้เกิดโรคขึ้นมาอีก เช่น ไข้หวัดใหญ่ (Influenza)
• เชื้อโรคที่เป็นที่รู้จักโดยทั่วไป มีการแพร่กระจายไปยังภูมิประเทศใหม่หรือกลุ่มประชากรใหม่ เช่น West Nile Virus
• การติดโรคที่เป็นที่รู้จักดีในพื้นที่เคยประสบมาแล้ว ซึ่งมีระบบนิเวศน์ที่มีเปลี่ยนรูป เช่น Lyme Disease
• โรคติดเชื้ออุบัติซ้ำขึ้นมาใหม่ (โรคที่เคยเกิดขึ้นในอดีตแล้ว กลับมาเกิดขึ้นอีก) เนื่องจากการดื้อยาของเชื้อโรค เช่น วัณโรค Tuberculosis วารสารชื่อ U.S. Journal Emerging Infectious Diseases กำหนดให้หมายถึงโรคติดเชื้ออุบัติใหม่ EID
