สารบัญแฟ้มของเนบิวลาและกระจุกดาว (อังกฤษ: Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars, CN) เป็นสารบัญแฟ้มทางดาราศาสตร์ที่รวบรวมรายชื่อเนบิวลาและกระจุกดาวที่ตีพิมพ์ในปี 1786 โดยวิลเลียม เฮอร์เชล ด้วยความช่วยเหลือจากแคโรไลน์ เฮอร์เชล น้องสาวของเขา ต่อมา จอห์น เฮอร์เชล ลูกชายของเขาได้ขยายให้เป็น สารบัญแฟ้มทั่วไปของเนบิวลาและกระจุกดาว (General Catalogue of Nebulae and Clusters of Stars, GC)
ทั้ง CN และ GC ต่างก็ถือเป็นพื้นฐานสำหรับ สารบัญแฟ้มทั่วไปใหม่ (NGC) ที่ทำโดยจอห์น ไดรเยอร์ ซึ่งยังคงใช้กันอยู่ทั่วไปในดาราศาสตร์สมัยใหม่
ประวัติศาสตร์[แก้]
สารบัญแฟ้มของเนบิวลาและกระจุกดาวได้รับการตีพิมพ์ครั้งแรกใน Philosophical Transactions โดยวิลเลียม เฮอร์เชล ในปี 1786[1] และได้เพิ่มเข้ามาอีก 1,000 รายการในปี 1789[2] และอีก 500 รายการในปี 1802[3] ทำให้ยอดรวมสุดท้ายเป็น 2,500
ในปี 1864 จอห์น เฮอร์เชล ได้ขยายสารบัญแฟ้มนี้โดยเพิ่มวัตถุเป็น 5,079 ชิ้น แล้วตีพิมพ์ใหม่เป็น สารบัญแฟ้มทั่วไปของเนบิวลาและกระจุกดาว โดยเพิ่มคำว่า "ทั่วไป" (General) เข้าไป[4] นอกจากนี้ยังมีการเผยแพร่ส่วนเสริมไปอีกหลังเขาเสียชีวิตไปแล้วกลายเป็น 10,300 รายการ
ในปี 1878 จอห์น ไดรเยอร์ได้ตีพิมพ์ส่วนขยายของ GC[5] ในปี 1886 เขาเสนอให้แก้ไขส่วนเพิ่มเติมอีกเป็นครั้งที่สอง แต่ทางสมาคมดาราศาสตร์หลวงได้ขอให้เขาจัดพิมพ์เป็นสารบัญแฟ้มใหม่ ทำให้มีการตีพิมพ์สารบัญแฟ้มทั่วไปใหม่ขึ้นมาในปี 1888[6] และสารบัญแฟ้มดัชนี (IC) ซึ่งเป็นส่วนขยายเพิ่มเติมอีกในปี 1895[7] และปี 1908[8]
