สก็อต จอปลิน (อังกฤษ: Scott Joplin) (พ.ศ. 2410 — 1 เมษายน พ.ศ. 2460) เป็นนักดนตรีและคีตกวีเพลงแร็กไทม์ ที่มีชื่อเสียงอย่างมาก และได้สร้างมาตรฐานไว้ให้สำหรับคนรุ่นหลัง

ประวัติ[แก้]

สก็อต จอปลิน เกิดใกล้ๆกับเมืองลินเดน รัฐเท็กซัส มารดาชื่อนางฟลอเร้นซ์ โจปลิน และบิดาชื่อนายไจล์ส โจปลิน สก็อตเป็นบุตรชายคนที่สองจากทั้งหมดหกคน ถึงแม้ว่าเราจะเคยถือว่าจอปลินเกิดเมื่อวันที่ 24 พฤศจิกายน พ.ศ. 2411 (ค.ศ. 1868) แต่การค้นคว้าสมัยใหม่พบว่าข้อมูลดังกล่าวไม่ถูกต้อง

หลังจากปี พ.ศ. 2414 (ค.ศ. 1871) ครอบครัวจอปลินได้ย้ายไปอยู่ที่เมืองเท็กซาร์คานา รัฐเท็กซัส และมารดาของจอปลินได้ทำความสะอาดบ้านเพื่อสก็อตจะได้มีที่หัดเล่นดนตรี ในปี พ.ศ. 2425 (ค.ศ. 1882) แม่ของเขาได้ซื้อเปียโน หลังจากที่ได้แสดงให้เห็นถึงความสามารถตั้งแต่อายุยังน้อย จอปลินน้อยก็ได้เรียนเปียโนฟรีกับคุณครูชาวเยอรมัน ผู้ได้ให้ความรู้เรื่องรูปแบบของดนตรีคลาสสิกแก่จอปลินเป็นอย่างดี ซึ่งสิ่งนี้จะเป็นประโยชน์ต่อเขาในภายภาคหน้า และได้เป็นไฟให้เขาสร้างรูปแบบคลาสสิกให้แก่ดนตรีแร็กไทม์ เขาได้เพิ่มเติมความรู้ด้านดนตรีโดยการเข้าเรียนที่ George Smith College ในเมืองเซดาเลีย ในวิชาประพันธ์เพลง
