โบลิบาร์เป็นนักการต่อสู้เพื่อความอิสระให้ประเทศเวเนซุเอลา โคลอมเบีย เอกวาดอร์ เปรู ปานามา และโบลิเวีย เป็นอิสระจากอาณานิคมสเปน เป็นที่รู้จักกันทั่วไปในนาม "ผู้กู้อิสรภาพ"

ชีวิตส่วนตัว

ในปี พ.ศ. 2345 โบลิบาร์ได้แต่งงานกับ "มาริอา เตเรซา โรดริเกซ เดล โตโร อี อาไลซา" เธอตายเพราะโรคไข้เหลืองในปีต่อมา และโบลิบาร์ไม่แต่งงานกับใครอีก
