Zygentoma เป็นอันดับหนึ่งในชั้นแมลง ซึ่งมีสปีชีส์ที่รู้จักประมาณ 550 ชนิด^[1] อันดับ Zygentoma ประกอบด้วย แมลงที่เรียกว่า ซิลเวอร์ฟิช หรือ ฟิชมอธ และ ไฟร์แบรต ลักษณะที่เด่นชัดของอันดับนี้คือมีเส้นใยหางสามเส้นที่ยาว โดยเส้นใยด้านข้างสองเส้นคือ เซอร์ซี (cerci) และเส้นใยตรงกลางคือ อีพิโพรคต์ หรือ appendix dorsalis ลักษณะนี้คล้ายกับกลุ่ม Archaeognatha แต่เซอร์ซีของ Zygentoma นั้นยาวเกือบเท่าอีพิโพรคต์ ต่างจาก Archaeognatha ที่เซอร์ซีสั้นกว่า^[2]

Zygentoma เคยถูกจัดเป็นอันดับย่อยของไทซานูรา (Thysanura) จนถึงปลายศตวรรษที่ 20 Zygentoma ^[3] จนกระทั่งมีการค้นพบว่าอันดับ Thysanura เป็นกลุ่มพาราฟิเลติก (paraphyletic) ทำให้มีการยกระดับอันดับย่อยทั้งสองขึ้นเป็นอันดับที่มีวิวัฒนาการเป็นเอกเทศ โดยอันดับ Archaeognatha ถือเป็นกลุ่มพี่น้องกับกลุ่ม Dicondylia ซึ่งรวมถึง Zygentoma ด้วย^[4]^[5]^{[ต้องการเลขหน้า]}
