แทนิส (กรีกโบราณ: Τάνις หรือ Τανέως, /ˈteɪnɪs/ tay-niss[1][2][3]) หรือ ศอนุลฮะญัร (อาหรับ: صان الحجر, อักษรโรมัน: Ṣān al-Ḥaǧar; อียิปต์โบราณ: ḏꜥn.t, [ˈcʼuʕnat];[4] แอกแคด: URUṣa-aʾ-nu;[5] คอปติก: ϫⲁⲛⲓ หรือ ϫⲁⲁⲛⲉ หรือ ϫⲁⲛⲏ[6][7]) เป็นเมืองโบราณในทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของลุ่มแม่น้ำไนล์ของอียิปต์ มันตั้งอยู่บนดอนปากแม่น้ำของแม่น้ำไนล์

แทนิสเป็นเมืองในอียิปต์โบราณและทำหน้าที่เป็นศูนย์กลางทางศาสนาแบบขนานกับธีบส์ ในช่วงระยะเวลาขั้นกลางที่สาม เป็นสมัยก่อนสมัยราชวงศ์ที่สิบเก้า แทนิสเป็นเมืองหลวงของอียิปต์ล่าง[9] แต่ในช่วงปลายราชอาณาจักรใหม่ เมืองแทนิสได้เสื่อมอำนาจลงและเมืองเพีย-ราเมส (Pi-Ramesses) ขึ้นมาเจริญแทนที่ ทำให้บริเวณดอนปากแม่น้ำไนล์ถูกทิ้งจนรกร้าง เนื่องจากท่าเรือมีปัญหาในการเทียบท่าเรือได้ลำบาก[9]
ในช่วงระยะเวลาขั้นกลางที่สาม เมืองแทนิสได้เป็นเมืองหลวงของฟาโรห์จากราชวงศ์ที่ยี่สิบเอ็ด และราชวงศ์ที่ยี่สิบสอง[9] ฟาโรห์เหล่านี้เห็นตัวเองว่าเป็นผู้สืบทอดสิทธิตามกฎหมายบนบัลลังก์ของสังคมของอียิปต์บนและล่าง พวกเขาใช้ชื่อดั้งเดิมและแสดงเจตจำนงในงานก่อสร้างแม้ว่าจะไม่มีสำคัญเมื่อเทียบกับสมัยราชอาณาจักรใหม่[10]
