นิวต์จระเข้ หรือ นิวต์ตะปุ่มตะป่ำ (อังกฤษ: Crocodile newts, Knobby newts) เป็นสกุลของสัตว์สะเทินน้ำสะเทินบกจำพวกซาลาแมนเดอร์สกุลหนึ่ง ใช้ชื่อสกุลว่า Tylototriton
จัดเป็นนิวต์หรือซาลาแมนเดอร์ขนาดเล็ก พบกระจายพันธุ์ตามแนวเทือกเขาหิมาลัย ตั้งแต่ภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือของอินเดียและพม่า ไปจนถึงพม่าสู่ภาคเหนือของไทย, ลาว, เวียดนาม และทางตอนใต้ของจีน[3][4][5]

หมายเหตุ
[แก้]- กะท่างน้ำเหนือ, กะท่างน้ำภูคา และกะท่างน้ำอุ้มผาง ถูกรายงานว่าเป็นสายพันธุ์ท้องถิ่นที่พบเฉพาะในประเทศไทย [7]
- ในอดีต ประเทศไทยเคยเรียกรวมกะท่างน้ำทุกชนิดว่าเป็น Tylototriton verrucosus หรือ กะท่างน้ำหิมาลัย หรือเรียกว่าตัวกะท่างเฉย ๆ โดยไม่มีการแยกชนิดที่ชัดเจน ทั้ง ๆ ที่กะท่างน้ำแต่ละท้องถิ่นมีสีสันและรูปร่างที่ต่างกัน เช่น แบบสีส้มการกระจายตัวอยู่ทางภาคเหนือ (ปัจจุบันคือชนิดกะท่างน้ำเหนือ) และแบบสีคล้ำกระจายตัวอยู่ทางภาคตะวันออกเฉียงเหนือตอนบน (ปัจจุบันคือชนิดกะท่างน้ำอีสาน) จึงมีการศึกษาวิจัยอย่างชัดเจน ในปี 2013 สามารถแยกกะท่างน้ำเหนือและกะท่างน้ำอีสาน ออกจากชนิด T. verrucosus หรือกะท่างน้ำหิมาลัย [8]
- หลังจากการแยกกะท่างน้ำเหนือและกะท่างน้ำอีสานออกจากกะท่างน้ำหิมาลัย ในปี 2013 ทำให้กะท่างน้ำหิมาลัย หรือ Tylototriton verrucosus กลายเป็นกะท่างน้ำกลุ่มเล็ก ๆ ที่พบได้ในภาคเหนือตอนบนเท่านั้น เช่น พบที่ดอยช้าง จ.เชียงราย และอุทยานแห่งชาติดอยผ้าห่มปก จ.เชียงใหม่ ในขณะที่กะท่างน้ำเหนือ หรือ T. uyenoi กลายเป็นกะท่างน้ำกลุ่มใหญ่ในภาคเหนือแทน และพบได้หลายจังหวัดในภาคเหนือ ตั้งแต่เชียงใหม่, แม่ฮ่องสอน, ตาก, กำแพงเพชร ยาวลงมาอุทยานแห่งชาติเขาแหลม จ.กาญจนบุรี
