แนวปฏิบัติจริยธรรมแพทย์ของเอเอ็มเอ

จริยธรรมแพทย์ เป็นสาขาหนึ่งของจริยศาสตร์ประยุกต์ ซึ่งวิเคราะห์เกี่ยวกับการปฏิบัติทางคลินิกและการทำวิจัยทางวิทยาศาสตร์ในสาขาที่เกี่ยวข้อง คุณค่าในจริยธรรมแพทย์ประกอบด้วยความเคารพในเจตจำนงบุคคล (autonomy), การไม่กระทำอันตราย (non-maleficence), การทำในสิ่งที่เป็นคุณ (beneficence) และ ความยุติธรรม (justice)[1] จริยธรรมแพทย์มีส่วนในการวางแผนดำเนินงานทางการรักษาและบริการสุขภาพของบุคลากรทางการแพทย์ เช่นแพทย์และพยาบาล[2] โดยหลักการสี่ข้อนี้ไม่ได้มีข้อใดที่สูงหรือสำคัญกว่าข้อใด ทั้งหมดล้วนสำคัญและจำเป็นในฐานะหลักกลางของจริยธรรมแพทย์[3] เพราะฉะนั้น ความย้อนแย้งในทางจริยธรรมจึงเกิดขึ้นเมื่อมีความจำเป็นต้องจัดเรียงความสำคัญระหว่างหลักจริยธรรมสี่ข้อ เพื่อประกอบการตัดสินใจให้ได้ผลทางจริยธรรมากที่สุด[4]

ในทางการแพทย์สากลมีหลักของจริยธรรมแพทย์ที่ยอมรับอยู่หลายชุด หลักชิ้นสำคัญปรากฏในบทสาบานตนของฮิปโปคราตีส ซึ่งพูดคุยเกี่ยวกับหลักการพื้นฐานของการปฏิบัติวิชาชีพแพทย์[4] คำสาบานตนนี้มีอายุราว 500 ปีก่อนคริสตกาล[5] ส่วนปฏิญญาเฮลซิงกิ (1964) และ ประมวลเนือร์นแบร์ก (1947) เป็นเอกสารว่าด้วยจริยธรรมแพทย์ชิ้นสำคัญสองชิ้น
