สาหร่ายใบมะกรูด เป็นสาหร่ายสีเขียวในสกุล Halimeda ส่วนที่เป็นแทลลัสของสาหร่ายเป็นชิ้นสีเขียว รูปฟัดหรือรูปไต เป็นแผ่นแบน ติดกันเหมือนใบมะกรูด มีแคลเซียมคาร์บอเนตเป็นส่วนประกอบ ทำให้ไม้ถูกสิ่งมีชีวิตอื่นกิน เช่นเดียวกับสาหร่ายในอับดับ Bryopsidales สาหร่ายใบมะกรูดประกอบด้วยเซลล์เดียวแต่มีหลายนิวเคลียส[2] เป็นสกุลของสาหร่ายสีเขียวขนาดใหญ่ที่มีการศึกษามากสกุลหนึ่ง[3] [4] [5]
