ภาษาจะฮ์ฮุตอยู่ในสาขาอัซลีของตระกูลภาษาออสโตรเอเชียติก ในอดีตเคยถือเป็นสมาชิกของสาขาย่อยอัซลีกลาง แต่ปัจจุบันถือเป็นภาษาต่างหาก[2]
