ปลายประสาทอิสระ

ปลายประสาทอิสระ (free nerve ending หรือ naked nerve ending) เป็นปลายประสาทซึ่งพบได้ที่ชั้นผิวหนัง ทั้งในชั้นหนังกำพร้า (ตั้งแต่บริเวณชั้น stratum basale ถึง stratum granulosum) และชั้นหนังแท้ ทำหน้าที่รับความรู้สึกสัมผัสหยาบ อุณหภูมิ และความรู้สึกเจ็บปวด โดยเป็นตัวรับที่มีคุณสมบัติในการปรับตัวช้าแต่สามารถรับรู้ได้ตลอดเวลาและต่อเนื่องเนื่องจากสัญญาณประสาทที่เกิดขึ้นจากการกระตุ้นจะถูกส่งเพื่อไปแปลผลยังสมองตลอดเวลา
