งานประกาศผลรางวัลออสการ์ ครั้งที่ 9 จัดขึ้นเมื่อวันที่ 4 มีนาคม ค.ศ. 1937 ที่ Biltmore Bowl, Biltmore Hotel ลอสแอนเจลิส ในครั้งนี้เป็นครั้งแรกที่มีการมอบรางวัลนักแสดงสมทบยอดเยี่ยม แต่ 7 ปีแรกของการมอบรางวัลนี้ ผู้ที่ได้รับรางวัลจะได้รับแท่นหินสลักแทน ซึ่งต่อมาได้มอบรูปปั้นออสการ์ชดเชยให้
ตั้งแต่ปีค.ศ. 1935 - ค.ศ. 1938 รางวัลดนตรีประกอบภาพยนตร์ยอดเยี่ยม (Best Score) จะมอบให้กับค่ายเพลงแทนที่จะมอบให้กับนักแต่งเพลงเหมือนครั้งอื่นๆ
